Saturday Night at V. Mertz

Great times...

I changed planes in Denver yesterday and ended up sharing a row with Regis Geisler -- convenient, since I'd already planned to bum a ride off him to the hotel. We actually talked career stuff on the flight; I've transitioned all the way from engineering into a sales-aligned consulting role and am contemplating my next move, particularly since my business unit is being sold to private equity. Regis is in a similar role, so I wanted to pick his brain. Thanks Regis! :-)

Dinner was at V. Mertz, which is a damn fine restaurant serving damn fine food with damn fine wine. I'm a foodie, but of course compared to Alison Crowe I'm a rank amateur at wine. Alison was kind enough to bring her own Pinot Noir, Becca Fong was awesome enough to find the restaurant and make the reservation, Regis was cool enough to give me a lift, and I was happy enough to have no complaints about the evening.

We closed V. Mertz out at midnight after a dinner consisting of foie gras, beef, lamb, cocktails, cheese, and of course a ton of wine. Great food and great company.

School of Imagination -- Pizza Fund Raiser

The myth, the legend, the flyer!

San Jose Airport

It has to be something pretty special to get me out of bed at this hour on a Saturday morning. Either that, or business school is attacking again.

This is definitely a cut above the usual grind though. Instead of a weekend class, I'm sitting in the airport in San Jose, awaiting my flight to Denver and then Omaha. Exotic Omaha! Omaha, center of the universe -- or at least the Buffettverse.

Yesterday a group of us visited the School of Imagination in Dublin, inspired by the charitable giving of last year's group (whom I daresay made this all possible!). What a great organization the SoI is. Charlene and Mitch are obviously passionate about what they're doing, and I think the community response to their work demonstrates that.

The School of Imagination is having a fund-raising night on February 25, 2008, from 4 to 9 pm:

Round Table Pizza
7841 Amador Valley Blvd.
Dublin, CA
925-828-6680

I'll post the flyer later... it's time to board!
